Course Description

The motor operated valves (MOV) is an important element of the plant and pipe system which are actuated by electric motors.

This course intends to describe operations and maintenance of MOV Actuators and possible applications for electric actuators, actuator controls and gearboxes. The course provides an introduction into the topic, an overview on Actuator Motor, Model - VD00 63-2/45 and founded explanations regarding design, function and its maintenance.

Course Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:

  • Identify common valve types and their typical service applications
  • Understand key differences between control valves and motor operated valves
  • Describe the major electrical and mechanical components that make up common motor actuators
  • Describe the electrical and manual modes of operation of motor actuators and trace the path of the rotational forces through the device.
  • Describe switching frequency  and service conditions
  • Understand overload protection for the valve and thermal motor protection
  • Diagnose and monitor MOV actuators
  • Carryout actuator maintenance
  • Discuss valve protection and functional safety – SIL

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for people in fields associated with valves and actuators. This would be inclusive of instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, process and other disciplines actively involved in either the utilization or the selection and installation of valves and actuators. This training course is suitable to a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit: instrumentation technicians and engineers, process engineers, maintenance personnel (specifically, from those fields closely associated with the equipment), supervisory personnel, mechanical engineers and design staff.
