Course Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:

  • Describe petroleum systems, reservoir rocks and the corresponding fundamental properties
  • Communicate and work effectively with a reservoir engineer
  • Describe the main reservoir production mechanisms and the related expected performance
  • Determine the key parameters of reservoir fluids and how the fluids are sampled, measured and described
  • Understand methods used for reserve evaluation Material balance, DCA, Volumetric method, and reservoir simulation
  • Determine fluid distribution in a reservoir, including contacts and pressure relationships
  • Understand reserve and resource volumes and describe tools such as decline curve analysis and material
  • Calculate hydrocarbons initially in place using several methods
  • Determine the parameters that impact well/reservoir performance over time
  • Understand the concept of fluid flow in porous media and permeability and Darcy’s Law
  • Discuss main concepts of Reservoir Management from geology to hydrocarbon recovery and export point.
  • Describe how to use well testing and the analysis of pressure data, one of the main sources of permeability estimates.
