Course Description

This course covers the fundamentals of data modeling, transformation, and interactive dashboard creation using Power BI. Business analysts, data professionals, and reporting specialists will benefit by learning to connect, clean, and visualize enterprise data effectively. Participants gain the practical skills required to build automated reports and derive actionable insights from complex datasets.

Course Agenda

Day 1 – Data Preparation and Modeling Foundations

  • Introduction to the Power BI ecosystem and architecture
  • Connecting to various data sources including files, databases, and web services
  • Cleaning and transforming data using Power Query Editor
  • Building relational data models and defining table relationships
  • Hands-on: Import raw sales and customer data, clean the data using Power Query, and establish a functional star schema relationship model.

Day 2 – Advanced Calculations with DAX

  • Understanding calculated columns versus measures
  • Writing foundational DAX syntax and arithmetic functions
  • Using time intelligence functions for year-over-year and running total analysis
  • Optimizing data models for performance and readability
  • Hands-on: Write complex DAX measures including year-over-year growth and rolling averages to analyze financial performance metrics.

Day 3 – Visualization, Deployment, and Action Planning Designing effective interactive dashboards and visual hierarchy

  • Implementing row-level security and sharing reports in the Power BI Service
  • Configuring scheduled data refreshes and gateway connections
  • Course wrap-up, final Q&A, and individual action planning for implementation
  • Hands-on: Design an executive dashboard with drill-through filters and security roles, then configure it for deployment in the Power BI Service.

Assessment Methodology

All courses conducted by EdTech will begin with a Pre-evaluation and end with a Post-evaluation.
