Fiber Optic Cables, Connectors & Hardware

  • Fiber optic cable types: loose tube, tight-buffered, breakout, ribbon
  • Common connectors: SC, LC, ST, FC
  • Patch panels, enclosures, trays, and splitters
  • Handling, routing, and storage best practices
  • Cable specifications and environmental considerations

Day 3

Splicing Techniques & Practical Termination

  • Fusion splicing: process, tools, and alignment
  • Mechanical splicing: materials and techniques
  • Fiber stripping, cleaving, and cleaning
  • Testing splice loss and connector integrity
  • Safety practices during splicing

Day 4

Testing, Troubleshooting & OTDR Usage

  • Introduction to test equipment: OTDR, power meters, light sources
  • Loss budget calculations and acceptance criteria
  • Connector and splice testing
  • Fault detection and troubleshooting strategies
  • Interpreting OTDR traces and test results

Day 5

Installation Best Practices & Standards

  • Fiber installation planning and documentation
  • Route design, ducting, and bend radius rules
  • Standards: TIA/EIA-568, ITU-T, IEC guidelines
  • Inspection and certification procedures
  • Maintenance tips and network upgrades
