Course Description

This 5-day program equips participants with the skills and knowledge to design, implement, and manage a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) system, enabling alignment between strategy and execution by translating organizational goals into measurable objectives across strategic perspectives.

Course Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:

  • Understand the core principles, structure, and evolution of the Balanced Scorecard framework
  • Translate vision and mission into strategic objectives across the four BSC perspectives
  • Develop strategy maps that show cause-and-effect relationships among objectives
  • Define and align Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and targets to strategic goals
  • Integrate initiatives, budgets, and action plans into the BSC framework
  • Design reporting tools and dashboards for monitoring organizational performance
  • Manage the performance review cycle and support continuous improvement through BSC

Day 1

Registration, Welcome & Introduction

Pre-Test

Foundations of the Balanced Scorecard

  • Introduction to performance management and strategic alignment
  • History and evolution of the Balanced Scorecard (Kaplan & Norton model)
  • Understanding the four BSC perspectives: Financial, Customer, Internal Process, Learning & Growth
  • Key benefits and limitations of using a BSC framework
  • Linking mission, vision, and core values to strategic themes

Day 2

Strategy Mapping and Objective Development

  • Developing strategic objectives aligned with each perspective
  • Constructing a strategy map to illustrate cause-effect relationships
  • Identifying strategic themes and focus areas
  • Aligning strategic objectives across departments and functions
  • Real-world examples of strategy maps

Day 3

KPI and Target Setting

  • Selecting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each strategic objective
  • Leading vs. lagging indicators, and how to balance them
  • Setting targets and thresholds that drive performance
  • KPI documentation: definitions, formulas, sources, and frequency
  • Cascading KPIs throughout the organization

Day 4

Initiatives, Alignment, and Scorecard Integration

  • Linking initiatives and projects to strategic objectives
  • Resource allocation and budget alignment with BSC priorities
  • Integrating the BSC with risk management, HR, and operational planning
  • Designing performance dashboards and reporting tools
  • Communicating the Balanced Scorecard across the organization

Day 5

Performance Review, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement

  • Conducting performance reviews using BSC data
  • Identifying underperformance, root causes, and corrective actions
  • Revising strategy maps, KPIs, and targets as needed
  • Embedding a culture of performance and strategic focus

Assessment Methodology

All courses conducted by EdTech will begin with a Pre-evaluation and end with a Post-evaluation.
