Course Description

This 3-day training provides participants with a practical understanding of the 5S methodology—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain—enhanced with Visual Management techniques. Participants will learn how to systematically organize the workplace, improve productivity, reduce waste, and maintain workplace safety using visual tools that guide behavior and performance.

Course Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and benefits of 5S and Visual Management.​
  • Identify workplace waste and inefficiencies using 5S methodology.
  • Apply 5S tools and Visual Management techniques effectively in their work areas.
  • Develop standards, checklists, and visual cues to sustain 5S practices.
  •  Lead or participate in 5S audits to ensure continuous improvement.

Welcome & Introduction

Pre-Test

Day 1 – Introduction to 5S & Sort (Seiri)

  • Introduction to Lean principles and 5S fundamentals
  • Importance of workplace organization and Visual Management
  • Sort (Seiri): Identifying and eliminating unnecessary items
  • Hands-on exercise: 5S “Sort” activity in a simulated or actual workspace
  • Discussion: Challenges and benefits of implementing Sort

Day 2 – Set in Order (Seiton) & Shine (Seiso) with Visual Management

  • Set in Order (Seiton): Organizing tools, equipment, and materials for efficiency
  • Visual Management tools: labels, color coding, signage, shadow boards
  • Hands-on exercise: Layout planning and workstation organization
  • Shine (Seiso): Cleaning and inspecting work areas
  • Practical exercise: Cleaning and implementing inspection routines
  • Introduction to creating visual cues for standardized processes

Day 3 – Standardize (Seiketsu), Sustain (Shitsuke) & Implementation

  • Standardize (Seiketsu): Developing procedures, checklists, and standards
  • Sustain (Shitsuke): Building discipline and habits to maintain 5S
  • Planning for 5S audits and continuous improvement
  • Case studies: Successful 5S with Visual Management implementations
  • Group activity: Developing a 5S implementation plan for participants’ own work areas
  • Q&A and wrap-up

Assessment Methodology

All courses conducted by EdTech will begin with a Pre-evaluation and end with a Post-evaluation. The instructor will evaluate the knowledge and skills of the participants according to the feedback given by participants. This will help to recognize the benefits and the level of knowledge gained by participants through the course.
