Course Description

This intensive, expert-level program is designed to certify senior vibration analysts and condition monitoring managers in the highest level of vibration analysis proficiency. Building on Category III knowledge, this course delves into complex fault diagnosis, advanced signal processing techniques, and the strategic management of condition monitoring programs. Participants will learn to act as the ultimate technical authority, capable of solving the most challenging machinery problems, specifying advanced analysis tools, and implementing a proactive reliability strategy for critical plant assets. Successful completion prepares candidates for the Category IV certification exam as defined by ISO 18436-2.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose complex machinery faults through advanced signal analysis, including modulation, orbit/centerline analysis, and advanced transient analysis.
  • Select, justify, and manage the specification of vibration analysis hardware, software, and systems for an entire plant or organization.
  • Develop, implement, and audit a complete Condition Monitoring (CM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program, including standards, procedures, and economic justification (ROI).
  • Act as a consultant-level expert, providing guidance on fault correction, balancing, alignment, and maintenance strategies based on vibration data
  • Critically evaluate new vibration analysis technologies and integrate them into an existing reliability program.

Day 3: Transient Analysis, Alignment, & Rotor Dynamics

Module 5: Start-up/Shutdown (Transient) Analysis & Resonance

  • Deep dive into transient data interpretation and resonance testing.
  • Natural frequency testing (bump tests) and modal analysis concepts.
Module 6: Advanced Alignment & Balancing
  •  Thermal growth, soft foot, and other alignment complications.
  • Advanced balancing techniques: influence coefficient method, multi-plane balancing.
Day 4: Fault Correction, Reporting & Financial Management

Module 7: Corrective Action, Reporting & Root Cause Analysis
  • Developing fault severity charts and setting alarm limits.
  • Creating executive-level technical reports for maintenance action.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology for recurring failures.
Module 8: Financial Justification & Program Audit
  • Calculating ROI, cost avoidance, and building a business case for the PdM program.
  • Developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and auditing program effectiveness.
Day 5: Technology, Integration & Exam Preparation

Module 9: Technology Selection & Future Trends
  • Specifying hardware (sensors, collectors, online systems) and software.
  • Integration with CMMS and other reliability technologies.
  • Overview of wireless systems, cloud analytics, and AI in vibration monitoring.
Module 10: Comprehensive Case Study Workshop & Exam Prep
  • Hands-on analysis of multiple complex, real-world case studies.
  • Course review, summary of key concepts, and certification exam preparation.
