Course Description

The Certified Cyber Security Practitioner program is a training designed to develop essential cybersecurity skills needed to protect organizational systems, networks, and data from modern cyber threats. This course covers core cybersecurity principles including threat identification, network security, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, incident response, security monitoring, and governance fundamentals. The training is aligned with internationally recognized cybersecurity competency frameworks and prepares participants for practitioner-level cybersecurity certification pathways.

Course Objectives

 Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:

  • Understand cybersecurity fundamentals, threats, and attack methods.
  • Apply security controls to protect networks, systems, and applications.
  • Perform basic vulnerability assessments and interpret scan results.
  • Implement secure configurations and security hardening techniques.
  • Understand identity and access management (IAM) principles.
  • Detect and respond to cybersecurity incidents using standard processes.
  • Apply risk management and cybersecurity governance best practices.

Pre-Test

Day 1: Cybersecurity Fundamentals & Threat Landscape

  • Introduction to cybersecurity and the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability)
  • Cyber threat landscape: malware, ransomware, phishing, insider threats
  • Attack lifecycle and common attacker methodologies
  • Basics of networking for cybersecurity (TCP/IP, ports, protocols)
  • Security concepts: encryption, authentication, authorization
  • Introduction to cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001 overview)
  • Workshop/Lab: Identify attack indicators and analyze real phishing email examples

Day 2: Network Security & Defense Techniques

  • Network security fundamentals (firewalls, IDS/IPS, proxies)
  • Secure network architecture (DMZ, segmentation, VLANs)
  • Wireless security and secure remote access (VPN fundamentals)
  • Common network attacks (MITM, spoofing, DDoS)
  • Network hardening and secure configurations
  • Introduction to packet analysis (Wireshark fundamentals)
  • Lab: Capture and analyze traffic to identify suspicious network behavior

Day 3: Endpoint Security, Vulnerability & Patch Management

  • Endpoint security: antivirus vs EDR vs XDR
  • OS hardening fundamentals (Windows/Linux baseline security)
  • Vulnerability assessment concepts and scanning process
  • Patch management and security updates
  • Common vulnerabilities (OWASP overview: web and system weaknesses)
  • Introduction to penetration testing vs vulnerability management
  • Lab: Run a vulnerability scan and interpret results with prioritization

Day 4: Security Operations (SOC) & Incident Response

  • Security Operations Center (SOC) roles and processes
  • Log management and SIEM overview (Splunk/QRadar concepts)
  • Incident response lifecycle (Preparation, Detection, Containment, Eradication, Recovery
  • Digital forensics basics and evidence handling
  • Malware basics and detection techniques
  • Reporting incidents and communication to management
  • Lab/Simulation: Incident response tabletop exercise (ransomware scenario)

Day 5: Governance, Risk, Compliance & Capstone

  • Cybersecurity governance fundamentals
  • Risk assessment and risk treatment plans
  • Security policies and procedures development
  • Data protection, access control policies, and compliance basics
  • Security awareness and human-factor security
  • Final assessment and certification readiness review

Assessment Methodology

All courses conducted by EdTech will begin with a Pre-evaluation and end with a Post-evaluation.
