Course Description

The Distribution Substation Automation program equips participants with the knowledge and understanding needed to manage and optimize automated distribution substations. The course covers the architecture, components, and systems involved in substation automation, including intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), protection relays, SCADA/RTU systems, and communication protocols. By focusing on automation in distribution substations, participants will learn how modern technologies improve reliability, monitoring, and operational efficiency in power networks.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the architecture and components of automated distribution substations.
  • Explain the functions and integration of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) and protection relays.
  • Describe communication standards and protocols for substation automation (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus).
  • Understand SCADA/RTU monitoring and control systems.
  • Identify common issues and best practices for optimizing substation automation systems.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for electrical engineers, substation technicians, power system specialists, and professionals responsible for the design, operation, or maintenance of automated distribution substations.
