Course Description

This 3-day technical course provides comprehensive training in steady-state power system analysis techniques and methodologies. Participants will learn load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, power system stability fundamentals, and the use of power system analysis software. The course combines theoretical concepts with practical applications for analyzing and designing reliable power systems.

Pre-Test

Day 1 – Power System Fundamentals & Load Flow Analysis

  • Power system components and single-line diagrams
  • Per-unit system and base quantities
  • Load flow analysis fundamentals
  • Bus classification: slack, PV, and PQ buses
  • Newton-Raphson and Gauss-Seidel methods
  • Load flow results interpretation 

Day 2 – Short Circuit Analysis

  • Symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults
  • Symmetrical components theory
  • Short circuit calculation methods
  • Fault current contributions
  • Circuit breaker ratings and interrupting capacity
  • Protection coordination considerations

  Day 3 – Power System Analysis Software & Applications

  • Introduction to power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, or similar)
  • Building power system models
  • Running load flow and short circuit studies
  • Voltage drop and power loss analysis
  • Contingency analysis basics
  • Report generation and documentation

  Post Test

Assessment Methodology

All courses conducted by EdTech will begin with a Pre-evaluation and end with a Post-evaluation.
