Course Description

Due to the increasing number of disruptions and the unpredictability of disasters of any kind (natural, occupational, operational, political, economical, information security, etc.), organizations are aiming to establish, implement, maintain, improve and getting certified against ISO 22301 in order to show commitment toward business continuity and ensure that disruptive incidents are detected, anticipated and properly addressed and management, thus the management system is to continue deliver their products and services in a pro-active manner to meet the needs and expectations and complying with contractual and applicable legal obligations of their interested parties.

Unexpected disruptions can have significant impact on the continuity of core processes of organizations, thus on their ability to provide products and services. In today’s fast changing world, where competition is getting tougher, organizations are seeking ways to survive and prosper from unexpected disruptions.

This course provides a structured approach to understanding and implementing a Business Continuity Management System based on ISO 22301:2019, ensuring that participants can effectively manage and improve BCMS within their organizations.

On day 5; there will be a written exam (or shared on screen) to the participants covering the Business Continuity Management Systems requirements reference to ISO 22301:2019. The exam is not intended for qualification rather than for knowledge check after course completion.

Course Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:​

  • ​Understand the history, structure and purpose of the International Organization of Standardization and the different types of ISO.
  • Gain an understanding of effective business continuity management throughout an organization, and therefore how to continue the critical services during or after disruptions.
  • Understand how to maintain and improve a robust BCMS in alignment with ISO 22301:2019
  • Understand the concepts and the requirements of the Business Continuity Management System of ISO 22301:2019, principal processes and interactions and the incorporation in the organization operational activities based on the high-level structure, risks and opportunities, and risk assessment, identify and comply with legal & other requirements, setting objectives by applying the PDCA cycle concept.
  • Full understanding and interpretations of the requirements of ISO 22301:2019 clauses/subclauses.
  • Discuss legal and regulatory requirements, process categorization and BCMS scope.
  • Describe business impact analysis (BIA)
  • Explain recovery time objectives (RTO), maximum tolerable period of disruption (MTPD), and prioritization
  • Identify, analyze and evaluate BC risks in alignment with guidance standards
  • Define requirements of BC plans and procedures
  • Communicate the importance of exercising and develop an exercise program
  • Determine metrics and KPIs and evaluate performance of a BCMS
  • Audit process, program definition, types, principles and responsibilities
