Course Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to:

  • Explain the natural mechanisms of production of oil and gas reservoirs and discuss their related Analyze drawdown and buildup tests in oil and gas wells
  • Understand the theory, applications, and practical limitations of well tests; understood the reservoir response under production injection disturbances and how to interpret a well test
  • Gained knowledge on concepts to understand well transient tests in naturally fracture reservoirs; and gas wells test design and interpretation
  • Understood naturally fractured carbonates and basemen reservoirs, storability, and matrix fracture porosity partition coefficients. Interference and pulse tests.
  • Learn the principles of reservoir limit tests, productivity index, and calculation of horizontal and vertical permeability, DST tests, and interference tests.
  • Gained skills to understand well tests in horizontal wells and horizontal fractured wells, principles of de-convolution and well tests modeling to define or recommend a well test design.
  • Identify flow regimes using the log-log diagnostic plot
  • Describe characteristic pressure behavior for common bounded reservoir geometries
  • Identify well test data affected by various wellbore and near-wellbore phenomena
  • Design a well test to meet desired objectives
  • Estimate average drainage area pressure
  • Analyze well tests in hydraulically fractured wells, horizontal wells, and naturally fractured reservoirs
